George Lucas' Rubber Stamps

Sky_walker's Question: Well, since I saw GL was using some kind of rubber stamps over the conceptual designs for the movies, I really wanted to know the ranks he use for each stamp, what does exactly says in each stamp and what does it means.

I hope you can understand what I tried to say and thank you for your time.

Solo's Solution: Well, there's not much to say here. He has two sets of stamps, one set is for stamping production designs, one for designs he approves, one for designs he doesnt approve. The other is for the computer animators, he'll stamp part of a design that he wants to be real, and use another on the parts he wants to be computer animated. Thank you for your question!

The Journal Of The Whills

Jedi-Wir's Question: Hey Jeremy, this is Jedi-Wir here and my question is what is the Journal Of The Whills, exactly?

Solo's Solution: These quotes are all we really know about the “Ancient Order of the Whills”or thier famous Journal. We know that they are a higher order of beings who are recording the history of the Star Wars Saga:

"Originally, I was trying to have the story be told by somebody else; there was somebody watching this whole story and recording it, somebody probably wiser than the mortal players in the actual events. I eventually dropped this idea, and the concept behind the Whills turned into the Force. But the Whills became part of this massive amount of notes, quotes, background information that I used for the scripts; the stories were actually taken from the 'Journal of the Whills." - George Lucas in the Annotated Screenplays

Mark Hamill once recalled in an interview:
"One of my favorite earlier versions of the Star Wars screenplay had a clever device to offset the technology of the whole thing so that audiences wouldn't think that this was going to be another 2001. It started with a helicopter shot of an enchanted forest and they puch the camera through the window of a tree and you see a mother Wookiee trying to breastfead this squealing baby Wookiee. He keeps gesuring toward the bookshelf and there's all this Wookiee dialogue going on. She goes and points to one particular book and the baby gets all excited. She takes that book off the shelf and we see it's titled The Journal of the Whills. She opens the book and that's when the ship comes overhead and the film we know starts."

Padmé's Name

Milady's Question: This has been bugging me for a while...Forgive me if it has been answered somewhere else. I've only watched the movies Wink

Padmé was born Padmé Naberrie. Where does the name 'Amidala' come in?

Solo's Solution: was indeed born with the last name Naberrie. But when a Nubian becomes ruler, they are given a new Royal name (kind of like what happens when a person becomes Pope). Although she was planning on going back to her original surname, when the new Queen asked her to become senator, she knew that she would have to keep the name Amidala, because that was the name that people knew, the name that had already been politically established. Otherwise, nobody would recognize that she was the same person who was queen.

Master Sifo-Dyas

Sky_walker's Question: Hi Jeremy, I always wondered myself who's Sifo-Dyas? I remember something about him. Was he also a Sith Lord or something like that, I'm not sure about it.

Solo's Solution: Sifo-Dyas was a Master in the Jedi Order who was killed shortly after the Battle of Naboo. According to the novel : Labyrinth of Evil, Sifo-Dyas was a friend of Jedi Master Dooku, who shared his belief that the Jedi Order was not what it once was and that it shamed itself by serving a corrupt Senate. But Sifo-Dyas never gave up on the Jedi as Dooku did. Dooku, upon beginning his training as a Sith Lord, was told by Sidious that Dyas had placed the order for the Clone Army in secret, as an order from Chancellor Palpatine. Dooku was ordered to murder him immediately thereafter and erase Kamino from the Jedi Archives before he left the Jedi Order for good. Dooku later presented his lightsaber to General Grievous as a gift.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why Dooku?

Jedi_Wir's Question: I asked this in another place but they suggested Solo's solutions. So i've been wondering...

In the one of the first scenes in Ep II when Padme meets with everyone in Palpy's office she thinks Dooku is behind the assassination attempt that was made on her life, why Dooku? The Jedi refused to believe this.

Solo's Solution: Padmé was the leader in trying to defeat the military creation act. Dooku however, was very much for it, as everyone knew. However, he had made it clear to her that he would stop at nothing to see that the act was passed. So when attempts started to be made on her life, that was just the first place her mind went.

Darth Vader

Haydenzgrl's Question: Hey. I'm new to this site, so if this question has already been asked I'm sorry. But George Lucas said that the reason Anakin was re-named Vader would be made clear in RotS. I saw it 3 times & if it did, I definetly missed it. (It aslo didn't explain it in the novelization.) All of the other Sith's names are clear: Maul, Tyranus (tyrannical), Sidious (insidious), Plageus (plague).

So.......
What does Vader mean?

Solo's Solution: As for the change of name, every Sith recieves a new name, just to signify that what they once were is dead, and they are now a different person. The meaning of Vader? It is a variation of the word "father". Wink

Anakin's Rank During the Clone Wars

Lady Skywalker's Question: Hello Very Happy I just got home from seeing ROTS for the sixth time. And I realized they call Obi-Wan "General Kenobi" but they don't ever say what rank Anakin held during this time (to my recollection) So I was wondering..just what exactly is his rank during ROTS?

Solo's Solution: Commander Skywalker. Shocked De je vu, lol. Something else to note, his number in the opening space battle was Red 5!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Obi-Wan's Name

Aleks' Question: Why did Obi Wan choose Ben as his name at the end of ROTS? Was there a specific reason?

Solo's Solution: Obi-Wan knew, that if he were to live on Tatooine to watch over Luke, he couldn't keep using his real name. Obi-Wan Kenobi became a household name during the Clone Wars, and if anybody related to the Empire were hear that name, they would most definately arrest him. So he took on the name of Ben. Most everybody thought him to be a crazy old hermit, and only the Lars family knew that his last name was Kenobi. I don't think there was any particular reason he chose the name Ben, but as far as the name change goes, it was all for security reasons.

Anakin's Creation

Lady Skywalker's Question: Okay..this question has been bugging me since the first time I saw ROTS.

Palpatine tells Anakin the story of Darth Plagueus the wise and said he could use the Force to manipulate the midichlorians to create life. Was he trying to say that Anakin was created by a Sith Lord or was he just saying that to further confuse Anakin?

I hope this question isn't to difficult, I've asked others, but no one seems to know the answer. Shocked

Solo's Solution: Sigh* Yes, it's time to face the awful, awful truth. Crying or Very sad Anakin was CREATED by Palpatine. Mad Crying or Very sad We all know that Palpatine is the ultimate Sith. We also know that he learned everything his master knew about influencing midichlorians, before killing him. No apprentice was ever good enough for Palpatine, so the only way he could ever get what he wanted in an apprentice was to create one himself. Palpatine knew of the prophecy of the Chosen One, but since it was the oldest recorded Jedi prophecy, and since he truly believed the Sith would be the rulers of the Universe, he assumed it was little more than a fairy tale. So he decided to take advantage of this seemingly fake prophecy. After influenciung the midichlorians to have all the traits for an ideal Padawan (fury, impatience, over attachment, strength) he purposely had Anakin born into a planet that was civilized, yet out of the reach of the Republic. Then he arranged it for the Jedi to find him ten years later, after he would have already formed a bond with his mother. He knew the Jedi would think Anakin was the so-called Chosen One, and that if they thought that they would put Anakin in a place of importance among the Jedi, giving Palpatine the perfect pawn, someone the Jedi would never expect to turn on them, since the prophecy said he would destroy the Sith. So in a way-- a really twisted way-- Palpatine is Anakin's father (though not genetically). It turned out Palpatine was his own undoing though. He thought the prophecy was a fake, but it turned out that Anakin was the real Chosen One, and Palpatine made it possible for the prophecy to be filled! So we can take some comfort in knowing that Palpatine did make a mistake in his galactic domination plan, destroyed by his own creation!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Chosen One?

Anna's Question: Hey Jeremy...i've got a question Very Happy What about the prophecy?? Was Anakin finally the chosen one, because he killed the Emperor??...or was the prophecy for Luke??

Solo's Solution:No, Anakin was definately the Chosen One. The prophecy said that one born of the midichlorians (which Anakin was) and that they would destroy the Sith. Even though he became a Sith, since he killed Sidious and caused himself to die, he did fulfill the prophecy and bring balance to the Force. Even though Anakin's actions were evil, because of them Luke was able to restart the Jedi Order fresh, without the corruptionof the Senate. Wink

Blue Milk

Lady Skywalker's Question: I've always wondered..what kind of creature does blue milk come from? Confused

Solo's Solution: We the fans, call the blue drink commonly seen on Tatooine milk, simply because it is a thick liquid, like milk. It is not necessarily milk. Any drink in a normal Tatooine home would be thicker, as they have to make their water last longer. If it is actually milk, It would probably come from a Ronto or an Eopie, since the Bantha is considered a dirty animal, and the Dewbacks are reptillian. Sorry I can't give you more info at the moment, but I will continue to look into this. Wink

Qui-Gon's Teachings

Jedi Girl's Question: I'm not sure if it's too soon to be asking this, because ROTS has only been out for 5 days (if you count the first showings at midnight) but I've been wondering something...

Since Qui-gon was the only one who learned how to retain his identity after death, then he taught it to Yoda and Obi-Wan, how did Anakin know how to do it?

Solo's Solution: This is a very complicated question, and since you posted it, I've done alot (and I mean alot) of thinking and research, and here is what I have come up with. Yoda didn't say anything about teaching him to retain his identity after death, what he said was "Teach you to commune with him, I will.' Which just means he would tell him how to communicate with Qui-Gon. I believe that the only way Yoda could feel Anakin's pain in AOTC, is because Qui-Gon told him (made it so he could feel the pain). Because let's not forget, Qui-Gon was of the Force, meaning he was everywhere. It doesn't make since that Yoda would know Anakin was in pain just because he's powerful, because if he reacted to everyone's pain, he'd feel that way all the time, and it's not like he has any emotional ties to Anakin. Plus, Mace was there and didn't feel anything and he's the second most powerful Jedi there is. And no other Jedi ever has these types of feelings, only Yoda and Obi-Wan. I believe that these three Jedi were allowed to keep their identity after death because they had a job to do. They had to help the prophecy come to pass. Qui-Gon had to point out these things to Yoda and Obi-wan had to stick around to help Luke, so that they could fullfill the will of the Force, and there would be balance. This would mean that Qui-Gon was communicating with Yoda when the Jedi were being killed, and with Obi-Wan when Alderaan was destroyed. They had to make sure everyone was on the right track. When Obi-Wan died, Qui-Gon would have then passed into the Force, since there would now be no reason to help his old padawan, and Obi-Wan could take over for him. As soon as Yoda sees the prophecy has been fullfilled, we never see his spirit again because his job is done. Anakin is a spirit just long enough to see his son happy and ask forgivness of his daughter (The Truce At Bakura). And Obi-Wan's spirit lingers for five years after ROTJ, to make sure the New Republic and the Jedi Order are on track, before he finally passes into the Force. Since there is no definate answer to this question, I want to know what you guys think! Please leave your comments in the discussion thread of Solo's Solutions.

How Old Is Luke In ANH?

Jedi Girl's Question: I'm not sure if I've asked this before...sorry if I have. I've always wondered how old Luke is for sure in ANH. Many sources say he's 18...then some say he's 20. So, which is it? Confused

Solo's Solution: No Problem. Luke and Leia are both 19 years old at the time of A New Hope

Clones

Anna's Question: Hey Jeremy...I'm kind of new in the Star Was world so, there is something i don't understand. Rolling Eyes The clones are soldiers of the republic or the separatist?

Solo's Solution: Good Question. The clone troopers as of EII are soldiers of the Republic, but their true allegience is to Palpatine. He is the one who has the deal with the Kaminoans, and he is the one who controls what they do and who they fight. That is why they follow him into the days of the Empire. So although the clones are helpful now, they won't be for long!

What Is "Bantha Fodder"?

OBI-1_Skywalker's Question: Seriously, what is it??

Solo's Solution: Ah, Bantha fodder Laughing Fodder, as some of us know, is usually bails of straw and grass fed to farm animals, like cows and horses. So basically what they're saying is that they're going to mutilate whoever they're talking to (turn them into fodder). But what makes it really bad is that banthas are like the pigs of the star wars universe. They eat ANYTHING, and alot of what they eat is dirty and scumy. So you can see where the insult comes in!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Count Dooku

Anna's Question: Why Is it Count Dooku and not Darth Dooku as almost all of the sith members?

Solo's Solution: His birth name is Dooku, but his Sith name is Darth Tyrannus. When you become a Sith Lord, you recieve a new name from your master.

Queens Of Naboo...

RebelScum's Question: In royalty dosen't it run down through the family? Im not explaining this very well.. but your know it its the family, the son/daughters is the heir from their mother/father.

But why are the Queens of Naboo elected? I mean, y'know they could be elected as the Prime Minister, President, or whatever else of Naboo. But qhy the Queen, i mean its incorrect..

I hope you understand what im getting at here...

Solo's Solution: Ah good insight. In Naboo's earlier days, it was through the family as you said. But when the past dictators were overthrown and the planet became a democracy, they decided that blood didn't make you a good leader, and that as a democracy they should elect thier rulers. But the titles of King and Queen were kept for continuity. Wink
